ERIS Process & Timeframe

A provider has approximately 35 calendar days to electronically submit the completed ERIS and supporting documents to COA from the date they are initially invited to complete it. Within approximately 30 calendar days after receipt of the completed ERIS, COA will conduct a desk review of the ERIS document and any supporting documentation. A summary report with recommendations will be shared with the provider.

These recommendations are either:

  1. The provider fully meets the initial ERIS and a site visit is warranted, or
  2. The provider partially meets the ERIS and COA recommends areas of improvements that can be initiated by the provider. The provider will be given 25 calendar days to complete improvements and COA will explore ways to assist the provider with making these improvements.

Site Visit and Completion of Review

If the provider is approved for a site visit, COA will arrange for a Child Care Reviewer to conduct an on-site visit of the program using the ERIS standards within approximately 65 calendar days.

Following the site visit, providers will be given 25 calendar days to address any necessary quality service improvement recommendations. Upon receipt of the provider’s response to the improvement recommendations, COA will review all documentation and make a final determination of provider status within the Department of Defense three-tiered level of quality programs.

As a final step, a summary report will be prepared which will indicate:

  1. Provider status
  2. A list of any quality improvement recommendations
  3. Provider benefits which may include training, equipment, supplies and facility improvements, or subsidy payments for the child care space for eligible Department of Defense Children
