The On-Site Visit

During the site visit, the Child Care Reviewer will provide the program with every opportunity to demonstrate that the standards identified in the ERIS are implemented within the program. It is important for the program to demonstrate to the Child Care Reviewer how it implements the standards of the ERIS within its unique culture and service environment.

Entrance Meeting

The Entrance Meeting is the formal “kickoff” of the site visit. This is when the Child Care Reviewer is introduced to the Program Director and other relevant staff who will be involved in the site visit. During this meeting, the Child Care Reviewer will discuss what can be expected during the duration of the site visit.

Interviews and Observations

The Child Care Reviewer will tour the child care program to observe interactions between staff and children, as well as the safety, care and maintenance of the facility. Informal interviews may be conducted with parents and personnel at the program. The intent of the interviews is to identify how parents and staff feel about the services provided, to determine if written policies and procedures are implemented throughout the program, and to help the Child Care Reviewer obtain a general sense for the overall culture and quality of the program.

Exit Meeting

An Exit Meeting with the Program Director and any appropriate staff is intended to provide the program with some initial feedback from the visit and explain what to expect next in the process.
